RIP Willy Wonka - Gene Wilder

2014 Slobot Inspiration Gene Wilder Willy Wonka Slider

The world lost an amazing actor, author, screenwriter and film director. Gene Wilder died at the age of 83 on August 29, 2016, at home from complications of Alzheimers Disease. He had kept knowledge of his condition private, but had been diagnosed three years prior to his death. According to his family, Wilder died while peacefully holding hands with his wife as he listened to his favorite music. We will remember him as he lives on in the roles that he played.
All of us should remember the timeless movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. This was probably the role that Gene Wilder is best known for. There are 2 versions of this movie. The original, released in 1971, starred Gene Wilder as the infamous Willy Wonka. The later version, released in 2005, starred Johnny Depp.

The last of five coveted "golden tickets" falls into the hands of a sweet but very poor boy. He and his grandpa then get a tour of the strangest chocolate factory in the world. The owner leads five young winners on a thrilling and often dangerous tour of his factory. At the end of the tour of the factory, one of the children inherited the whole factory.

This is one of the songs about the tiny Oompa Loompa's, who are the laborers in the factory. You can't help it but to fall in love with these guys and love seeing them sing and dance.

This is probably my favorite song from the movie. It's title is "Pure Imagination". It reminds us all of how wonderful things can be, if we just slow down and get lost in our own imaginations.

Thank you reading and following me through this musical journey:

Artist Spotlight - One-Eyed Doll

Austin, Texas rock duo One-Eyed Doll have gained an exceptionally loyal and rapidly growing fan base since 2006 with consistent touring, a solid memorable live performance, and a DIY connection with the fans. The band's live set featuring just Kimberly Freeman on guitar and vocals and Jason Rufuss Sewell, AKA: "Junior" on drums, is an interactive fan-friendly experience that's both heavy/sinister and sweet/vulnerable. Their darkly humored, intense, sometimes quirky and theatrical rock and roll captures the hearts of metal, rock, goth and punk all-ages audiences night after night.
On http://localmusicplay.com/index.php  we have individual songs by them and also a couple of playlists for your enjoyment.
http://localmusicplay.com/main/693/ my favorite Doll playlist
http://localmusicplay.com/main/7072/ This is the song Resurrection, one of my favorites with special meaning. It shows a very deep soul and shows their emotional side.

Kenny and I have had the opportunity to see One-Eyed Doll 3 times since April and have plans to catch 2 more shows this fall.  These 2 artists are nothing short of perfection. They use great storytelling and imagery, so much energy, on and off the stage, and the music they make is excellent. When you listen to them, it's hard to imagine that its only the 2 of them on stage. I have seen fans at shows with them as young as 2 years old and we won't say the oldest we have seen, haha.  Junior and Kimberly are also very accessible to their fans. They stay at their merchandise table after their sets, so they can meet and talk to as many of their fans as possible.
They will be here in Charlotte on Oct 5, which also happens to be mine and Kenny's anniversary. Everyone come hang out and hear some great music. They are going to be at Amos' Southend with Wednesday13.

Original vs. Cover Songs

Image result for black sabbath war pigs imagesAlot of bands still write their own original music, where some bands choose to be a cover band.  Some bands, do mostly originals with a couple of covers thrown in here and there. Whatever your personal stance on cover songs, we have some great examples on localmusicplay.com Artist today can look to some of the older artists for inspiration and creativity. Sometimes, the remake or cover song is wonderful, whereas there are some songs that people should not even try to cover. You make your own decision as I have listed a couple of examples that you may not have ever known existed. Here and there, as I find others and compare them, I will let you know.

1) Black Sabbath - War Pigs http://localmusicplay.com/main/7151/ vs. Justin King of Open Your Eyes - War Pigs http://localmusicplay.com/main/76/
Ozzy is definately a hard act to follow. Justin King of Open Your Eyes, I believe, does an incredible version of this song. Vocals are on point and his guitar riffs are amazing. I can't wait to see these guys grow musically and see where the music journey takes them.

Why music?

Music is one of the most essential forms of self-expression. Songwriters and artists can convey totally different worlds and concepts through their words and instruments. Just like artists convey their stories and feelings with brush and paint. I can't even begin to imagine a world without music. Nor would I want to. Now, I realize that alot of the music on the site is not mainstream and you may not have even heard of some of the bands. This is our whole point. There are so many good musicians out there, that hopefully we can introduce you to give you a sample of their music. Hopefully, to create some new fans for them, when it is all said and done. Whether your tastes are rock, punk, heavy metal, jazz, country, R&B, hip-hop, or one of the many other genre's of music not mentioned, we try to highlight at least some form of everything.
They can tell you a whole story in a matter of minutes, where you can actually picture in your mind what is going on. Karen Stever is a master storyteller and the imagery that she uses is absolutely amazing. http://localmusicplay.com/main/645/
For example One-Eyed Doll are incredible storytellers as well, but this side of them shows they can be just fun-loving friends in an awesome mood. They can make you just feel happy and silly, like you have no cares in the world. For example : http://localmusicplay.com/main/40/
Open Your Eyes, is a band that is trying to enlighten today's generation, as to the reality that is life. After seeing and losing friends to drug addiction, they wrote these words, that will make you break down and cry if you have ever lived the life or lost someone to the life. http://localmusicplay.com/main/7057/
You can hear a re-make of a song, that in my case, brings me right back to my teenage years with a current style to it. Kobra and the Lotus makes "Black Velvet" sound totally modern. http://localmusicplay.com/main/7123/
Or you can find an amazing group of 3 young brothers, that just want to make music. We found out about Remnants of Hope when we went to another show and ended up talking to them for a while after their set. Since the youngest of the brothers is 15, they have an incredible support system in their parents to help and guide them. They allow them to be who they are and perform the music they want. http://localmusicplay.com/main/7078/

Artist Spotlight - The Great Kat

One of the world's greatest and fastest, if not THE greatest and fastest guitar shredders is The Great Kat. She is a Julliard graduate Violin Virtuoso and multi-talented Goddess who has won numerous awards and performed all over the world. She performed on the violin before transferring her knowledge of the instrument and classical music over to the electric guitar. She has become the revolutionary metal guitarist/violinist and 1 of the world's fastest guitar shredders. One example would be her playing Flight of the Bumblebee  http://localmusicplay.com/main/64/ She is resurrecting Beethoven with vicious metal, pure classical and total virtuosity and showcases her phenomenal guitar and violin pyrotechnics in "Beethoven Shreds" CD and "Beethoven's Guitar Shred" DVD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtqqAkxINGI+
The Great Kat was born in England on a US Air Force Base and moved to the US at the age of 3. After listening to Beethoven since birth, The Great Kat realized that her mission was to become a composer and musical revolutionary. Kat began classical piano studies at 7. At the age of 9, she began classical violin studies in New York.  At the age of 15, The Great Kat won a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Julliard School in NYC as a violin student and subsequently graduated with honors and began performing all over the world.
Here's some neat facts for you.
1) Timothy Leary, famous Harvard psychology professor and mind-altering guru collaborated with The Great Kat on the rock song "Right Brain Lover". Timothy Leary wrote the wild psychedelic lyrics and Kat composed the music.
2) The Great Kat's neo-classical music is continuing to spread to all aspects of entertainment with TESCO featuring Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" music in the new TV commercial for the wildly popular Activision video game "Call of Duty : Ghosts"
3)The Great Kat is a Double Virtuoso - Guitar and Violin

What and who are localmusicplay, some of you may ask. We are just normal people who love music. Over the years, we have had alot of friends that are musicians and they play gigs locally. Across the nation there bands everywhere who are great bands but don't have the major recording contracts and they are just trying to share their music. There are alot of bands who do not get the attention and appreciation they deserve. These guys work hard and bust their asses to play just simply for the love of music and to gain new fans.
Our purpose is to introduce people to new bands, see some vintage videos and just have a wide variety of music that people can listen to. Occasionally I will blog an Artist Spotlight to give you bios and introduce you to some of our favorite bands. Look for these to start soon.
As the site grows, their will be new options and some really neat stuff that is in the works. We developed this site to be able to share music from 1 site to multiple platforms. We hope to be able to help promote shows in all different cities. An example; You have to travel to Dallas, Tx. You have some free time that night and you want to go see some live music. Eventually we will have a calendar that you can pull up dates and cities to find out where some gigs at.
You can join the site yourselves and post up music that you would like for others to see. You just have to go to the website localmusicplay.com and sign up. Then you can add your videos and playlists. You can see who the most popular videos are, listen to playlists, see some live video feeds and just generally find some bands that we think are great.
